Playing tick tack toe with my son Miles it occured to me how wonderful it would be if instead of war everyone in the world played tic tack toe, because nobody wins and nobody cares and nobody dies. This became a metaphor for a series of works that I am still producing today. Peaceful games using opposing simple symbols. rena small 2008

acrylic paint, white pencil, epoxy resin on pine
3 x 2.5 inches x 2 inches

Life is a series of improvisational games that we all play to survive. "Connect the Dots, Ace" is an American Slang phrase which was created just after 9/11 and refers/symbolizes -- as does my painted sculpture does too--any one or many individuals who find out or discover suspicious mischief that could prevent another catastrophic event like 9/11. My art is a sideshow of American circumstances rooted in the creation of American Slang language that reflects experience, for real.
